Spring officially arrived on March 20. Longer and warmer days have many folks ready to get their hands dirty in their gardens. While we have had some warm days, there is still a danger of frost until May 15 in south central Pennsylvania. Early spring is a fantastic time to decorate your home with indoor blooming plants or plant your garden with annuals that thrive in cooler temperatures.
Annuals such as pansies, violas, osteospermum, dianthus, and snapdragons are safe to plant now. They will need protection from a heavy freeze but thrive in the cool temperatures of early spring. Many of these cool loving annuals will start to look bedraggled when day temperatures are consistently above 80 degrees. When these early annuals look spent (usually in mid to late May), simply pull them out of your pots or flower beds and replace them with annuals that love warmer temperatures.
Flowers also warm up indoor living areas. Gerbera daisies, begonias, gloxinias, African violets, and much more are blooming in pretty spring colors to brighten your home. Our greenhouses are bursting with blooming beauties that will welcome spring into your home and garden!
